Clément Baloup

With the high school I went to an exhibition in Paris about immigration through the comic strip . Among the artists who were exposed , one of them caught my attention : Clément Baloup .
Clement Baloup is an author of comic books and a french designer born in 1978 . He is known for his comics "Viet Kieu Memories" Volume 1 and 2: "Exit Saigon " and " Little Saigon ."

Both works evoke the difficulties vietnam lived through his family, especially his grandfather and his uncle, Vietnamese condemned to the exile . He speaks of the Japanese, french and finally american occupation, before the victory of the communist north. We find five different narrators and evidence on the course of Vietnamese exiles . In these two volumes , Baloup uses the contrast between the Black/White and color to show the difference between the past ( black and white) and present ( color ) This is what made me appreciated his work at first glance . His manner of drawing is also nice. Indeed, if the graphic of a comic strip I don,t like I will not read it . That,s verry attractive and the story is beautiful. Oh and it's a part of my history program this year so it's good ;). After, Baloup uses some historical picturs like the one with Phan Thi Kim Phie, burned during the war Us/Viet Cong Napalm when she was a child. This picture is known in all the word.
Clement Baloup wrote other comic strips like "La vie en rouge" (The life in red) "le choix de Hai" (the choice of Hai) and "le club du suicide" (Suicide club). Ok that's not very happy but we can try :)
